Remember bringing a valentine to your teacher? This tradition has been practiced throughout this century. Not only did you bring your teacher a pretty card, but you brought her a present too. You may have brought delicious chocolate candies in a beautiful satin-covered heart-shaped box adorned with a pretty silk rose (not plastic!) Of course, she was kind enough to share them with the children in the class. But the gift of choice was a pretty cotton hanky, perhaps with a scalloped edge and a pretty hearts and flowers design. And teachers, being the wonderful people they are, have SAVED all their pretty valentines over the years to remember you by.
